Apsara Dance Shows!!

No visit to Cambodia is complete without attending at least one traditional Khmer dance performance often referred to as ‘Apsara Dance’ after one of most popular classical dance pieces.

Traditional Khmer is better described as ‘dance-drama’ in that the dances are not merely dance but are also meant to convey a story or message.

We can arrange for our guests to attend one of the nightly dinner performances at a local restaurant. Dinner ordinarily begins at 6.00 or 7.00pm and dance performances at 7.30pm or 8.00pm, consisting of 4 or 5 dances, lasting 45 minutes to an hour in all. Many places offer a buffet featuring Khmer or international food. Some offer a set menu Khmer dinner.

You can book tickets for many Apsara Dance Shows depending on your wishes and budget!

Phare: The Cambodian Circus.

Phare Ponleu Selpak is a project set up in Battambang which provides social support, education and culture, a visual and applied arts school and a performing arts school for children from poor families…

They educate and look after the welfare of thousands of Cambodian children and young people every day, but here, we will feature the Circus School….(part of the Performing Arts School)

Phare Ponleu Selpak’s Circus School was created in October 1998 when one of the founders realised that his drawing classes weren’t effectively channeling the energies of the most volatile, damaged and vulnerable children. At that time, the Anch Chanh village was home to a large population of abandoned children and street kids in conflict with law and their social environment. Today, the Circus School remains an open-access space where students are trained by skilled local teachers and foreign volunteers in the major disciplines of juggling, acrobatics, aerial acts, clowning, balance and dance.

Their brand of “new circus” incorporates artistic prowess and social and historical awareness. Since the first professional performance in 2002, Phare Ponleu Selpak’s circus troupes tour every year in both Cambodia and abroad. Phare Circus hosts shows daily for audiences comprising both local people and tourists.

Originally based in Battambang, Phare recently opened a circus ‘big top’ for nightly performances in Siem Reap. Their shows feature the cream of Cambodian youth who will amaze you, make you laugh and make you cry with their performances… Each story/show is different and you can find out details of the shows currently running and also book direct with us at the Cashew Nut Guesthouse.

Support this worthy cause that educates thousands of Cambodian children, gives them a purpose and a career in life AND enjoy an amazing night out!

Tickets start at $18.00 per person and are available from Cashew Nut Reception.
